Duffy is a brand of electric boats very popular in San Diego. Most of our customers are in the Coronado Cays and the others at Mission Bay/San Diego Bay and Lake San Marcos. Deep cycle batteries are crucial for Duffy boats due to their role in providing reliable power for propulsion and onboard electronics. Traditionally, the flooded lead acid 6V battery was issued with the boat out of the factory. The Trojan 6V T-105 being the first OE battery part number and now the US Battery 2200XC. Both of the these battery brands would be categorized as a heavy plate battery. Note, less expensive, lighter plate batteries can work as well if the Duffy is only occasionally used. Depending on the use of the boat, periodical watering of the batteries is required using distilled water only. A non maintenance 6V deep cycle battery is available although more expensive than the flooded battery chemistry. AGM 6V batteries part number LDC6-224 has been a reliable replacement for the flooded lead acid. Recently, DCB has been installing 36V and 48V lithium iron phosphate batteries are a replacement for the lead acid battery. The goal is for a longer life, less maintenance and cleaner battery for the Duffy boat.
