Replacing Lead Golf Cart Batteries with New Allied Brand Lithium Golf Cart Battery

Installing new lithium deep cycle batteries in your golf cart just became easy.  A drop in replacement battery with more range, faster recharge time and less weight is ready for delivery to  your door today.
This post will cover the how the installation, charging and tips to replacing lead golf cart batteries with new lithium golf cart batteries. Mfg 7 year warranty.

Lithium Golf Cart Battery Range

So, the average 18 hole golf course is 6 miles.  Traditional 6 volt 225Ah lead golf cart batteries could finish two rounds of golf or twelve miles, depending on passenger weight, terrain and air temp.
12 volt lead golf cart batteries used in 48 volt EZGO, Yamaha and Precedent golf carts perform best with only one round of eighteen holes of golf.
A lithium 50Ah size golf cart battery pack has a documented range of 25-30 miles on a full charge.

Lithium Golf Battery Weight vs 36 volt Lead Golf Cart Battery Weight

A 36 volt golf cart example of weight. One traditional 6 volt 225Ah lead acid golf cart battery weighs 62 lbs and 36 v golf carts require six batteries.  The combined weight is 372 lbs.
Each 12 v Lithium golf cart battery weighs 30 lbs and only three 12 v lithium batteries connected in series are required for 36 volt systems. 372 lbs vs 90 lbs lead vs lithium

Lithium Golf Battery Weight vs 48 volt Lead Golf Cart Battery Weight

A 48 volt golf cart example of weight. One traditional 12 volt 150Ah lead acid golf cart battery weighs 80 lbs and newer 48 v golf carts require four batteries.  The combined weight is 320 lbs.
Each 12 v Lithium golf cart battery weighs 30 lbs and four 12 v lithium batteries in series is 120 lbs.
320 lbs vs 120 lbs lead vs lithium

Golf Cart Models

EZGO - RXV 48 Volt uses a minimum of two 48V 30Ah Allied batteries connected in parallel to
double battery capacity from 30Ah to 60Ah and maintains voltage to 48V nominal
Three Allied batteries in parallel will increase driving range and have a total of 90Ah
Up to four total can be installed in RXV

Lithium Golf Cart Battery Documented Range

All of the lithium golf batteries are 48 volt but by increasing capacities, increased cart driving range is achieved>
The battery capacity is expressed in discharge amps per hour or A/H. Think of this as the size of the gas tank you want. Note, more Ah more range and the more time required to recharge. Range is based on a full charge.

Two Allied batteries 60 A/H: 35-40 Miles per charge on flat terrain Unit Price $900 ea*

Three Allied batteries 90 A/H: 45-60 Miles per charge on flat terrain. Unit Price $900 ea*

Carts with upgraded motors and speed controllers at least three 48V are required with some requiring four to five batteries.

Estimated mileages based stock fleet carts. Adjust for upgraded motors and speed controllers, AC units, older carts, etc.

*Must use Allied lithium golf cart battery charger to not void warranty. Price quote is with old lead acid battery core in exchange.

How Many Lithium Batteries Do I Need for My Golf Cart?

Three batteries minimum if golf cart will pull multiple passengers and or hills

How Do I Install Lithium Golf Cart Batteries?

A how to install LiFe battery video is at the bottom of this page. Call us today (619) 448-5323 for a quote on visiting local carts and installing the batteries. We keep and recycle the old lead acid golf cart batteries. Most installations are $50 flat rate.

48 and 36 volt Allied Lithium Golf Battery Cycles vs 12  volt Lead Golf Cart Battery Cycles

Lead acid golf batteries can be safely discharged to a determined % of capacity before permanent plate damage will occur. Example is a 6 volt lead golf cart battery has a maximum discharge depth of 80% of capacity. A 12 volt lead acid golf cart battery found in 2014 and newer 48 v EZGO have a max depth of discharge of 50% of capacity.
Lead Acid Golf Cart Battery Maximum Discharge Depth:
6 volt deep cycle battery max DOD 80%
8 volt deep cycle battery max DOD 80%
12 volt deep cycle battery max DOD 50%

Lithium Golf Cart Battery Maximum Discharge Depth:

48 and 36 volt lithium deep cycle battery max DOD 100% and a built-in battery management system (BMS) protects the battery from over-charging and over discharging.

Lithium Battery Chemistry

The Allied battery is Lithium Iron Phosphate or LiFePO4.  Lithium Iron has a flash point of 550 F and is not the lithium ion or polymer battery found in laptops, cell phones or Tesla.

Lithium Golf Battery Warranty

The lithium golf battery replacement has a 7 Year Warranty from Allied. They guarantee you will receive the full value of your investment. Lithium batteries under normal use will provide over 10 years of maintenance free service.  Traditional 12 volt lead acid golf batteries last on average 3-5 years based on how well you maintain the batteries.

Lithium Battery Storage

A golf cart left is storage with flooded lead acid deep cycle batteries means the batteries will self discharge about 15-20% per month unless a battery maintainer is used.
The lithium golf battery replacement has an average self discharge loss of 2-3% per month

Lithium Golf Battery Charger Options

Using a lithium rated golf cart charger will expedite battery charging to 2-3 hours.  Lead golf cart batteries require  6 - 8 hours for a full charge from 50% discharged.  Note lead acid battery chargers can be used but rapid re-charging will not occur.
Lithium golf cart batteries do not suffer from damage from opportunity charging as do lead acid batteries. This means periodic short term "top off and go" style of charging will not reduce the life of the Lithium battery as it does the lead acid.
